Obituary notice for Club Member Yvonne Hamon LM285

Yvonne Catheryne Hamon, Wireless Operator, WWII Veteran

19 Jun 19

OBITUARY OF YVONNE CATHERYNE HAMON (NÉE HAMILTON-GRANT) 1921 – 2019.
It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Yvonne Hamon on Wednesday, 19 June 2019.
She was born in Pitlochry, Scotland Dec 31st 1921. The only daughter of Col Alexander and Grace Hamilton Grant. The family immigrated to Canada in 1924 residing in various locations in British Columbia.
When the Second World War broke out, Yvonne joined the RCAF as a member of the Womans’ Division serving overseas as a Wireless Operator with Bomber Command. In 1951 she married then Staff Sgt Herbert Hamon and they celebrated 41 years together with military postings from coast to coast finally settling in Kingston in 1964. She began working at Hotel Dieu Hospital and was spirited away to become the Secretary for the Dean of St Georges Cathedral. Here she met and cherished her many friends and acquaintances until her retirement in 1986.
She would not mind to be described as a “Stubborn old Scot” that contributed to her 97 wonderful years on this earth living in her own home, on her own terms to the end, just as she wanted. Were we all to be so deserving in life to accomplish the same. Anyone who visited with her will know of her stories and adventures during her long life.
Yvonne leaves behind her son Peter and his wife Donna of Halifax, Grandchildren Ryan, Eric (Tabitha), and Lindsay (Will) and her Great Grandchildren Shaylee, Sabrina and Jackson.
Visitation will take place at James Reid Funeral Home, 1900 John Counter Blvd. Tuesday, June 25th from 5 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held in the chapel of James Reid Funeral Home, on Wednesday June 26th at 1:30 pm.
Inurnment will be a private family ceremony to be held in the Military section of Cataraqui Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her beloved husband on 27 June 2019 at 1 pm.
In Lieu of flowers donations can be made in Yvonne’s memory to either the Diabetes Canada or the CNIB.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Yvonne Catheryne Hamon.
