Obituary notice for club member John Francis Amo (Jack) LM 720

 John Francis Amo  (Jack)

March 28, 1943--March 7, 2021

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of retired Master Warrant Officer John Amo, affectionately known as Jack, Dad, Grampa, and Gramps. He passed away suddenly at home from complications due to Cancer on Sunday March 7, 2021, just shy of his 78th birthday.

Jack joined the Canadian Forces at the young age of 16 as an apprentice. When he turned 18 he moved on to Signals, and then he eventually finished his military career as a supply tech with 20 years of service. He had the honor of serving tours in the Congo, Egypt, CFS Alert and of course Cyprus.

In 1979 during his posting to Calgary, AB Jack retired from the regular service and moved to Victoria, BC where he joined the Canadian Scottish Regiment (Princess Mary' s) Reserves located out of the Bay Street Armories.. After 10 years he retired from the reserves, and again- he could not just relax so he started his  extensive volunteer career with the Canadian Scottish Regimental Association. With more thatn 25 plus years as the secretary-treasurer he grew his extended family even further, getting to know as many members as he could. During this time, he was honored to have received the Queen's Diamond Jubilee medal for his significant contributions to the C Scot R.

Jack was instrumental in planning and organizing multiple events such as the yearly C Scot R Association reunions that have been held throughout BC and into Alberta, he was the registrar fo the C Scot R Princess Mary's 100th Anniversary event and he helped formulate the electronic version of the quarterly newsletter and so much more.

If working for the Canadian Forces was not enough, once he moved to Victoria Jack continued with a new career. This time it was with the Provincial Government. His knowledge and skills were a perfect match for working with the Speech and Hearing Division and then moving on to the Queen's Printer. Here his supply tech training came in handy in both the Victoria office and in the lower mainland warehouses. Once more Jack did another 20 years with this employer.

Jack loved his scotch preferably Glenmorangie, Rodger's chocolates and of course his pistachio nuts. After retirement he could be found enjoying good food, casinos and travelling with his good friend, the Cullens, and the Lowes. He spent many springs in Ontario, often joining in a Euchre tournament with his brothers or hanging with the family at John's place. He traveled to Cyprus, Scotland and England enjoying more Scotch, Cypriot food, and incredible hospitality from new family an friends.

Jack was loved and adored by many; he is survived by his wife Carole. His son John and his grandsons Kyle and Cody, his daughter Liz and son in law Ryan Hyland, his grandchildren Sabrina and Colby Hyland and his estranged daughter Tammy and her family. His brothers Godfrey, Peter & Susan and Paul. His sisters Barb Sherwood, Judy and David Heaslip. His extended family of Peter & Joan Aikenhead., Elinor Kernachan , Lois Atchison, Cheryl & Glenn Mackie and many nieces and nephews in both BC and Ontario.

Due to Covid a celebration will be planned later in the year when it is safe to do so, at that point he shall have the party he wanted. In the meantime, please raise your glass and send him on his way
