It is with profound sadness, and much gratitude, that we share news of the death of LCol (retd) Brian Denis Costello, CD, who died peacefully October 9, 2015 at the Civic Campus of The Ottawa Hospital, following a stroke suffered hours earlier at his family home. He was 74 years old.

Brian is survived by his loving and caring wife, Martha Carolyn Costello (Patterson, of Gaspé, QC), his loving sons Capt (N) Brian Andrew (Maureen), LCol (retd) Joseph Patrick (Margaret), Lt (N) Sean Michael (Pam), his beloved grand-daughters Katherine and Jamie, and by younger siblings Sheila, Michael (Patty) and Aileen (Jack). Pre-deceased by his parents Capt (retd) Edwin and Doris Costello (Switzer) and brother Terry.

A career Army officer, first with the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals and later the Communications & Electronics Branch, he enjoyed a diverse career filled with both field and staff positions, including an exchange tour in Colorado Springs, deployment to Ismalia, Egypt with UNEF II, communications support of the 1976 Olympics (Montréal) and highlighted by command of CFS Masset 1981- 84. He later earned accolades and great recognition for his successful leadership of a multi-year, international undertaking, the CFSRS Remoting Project, OP WINTERCHILL.

Retiring from the Canadian Forces in 1995 and later from the Communications Security Establishment in 1998, he continued his 33-year challenge of Multiple Sclerosis with the unending support and love of his wife and partner in life, Martha.

The family would like to gratefully acknowledge and thank the staff on duty in the Emergency Department during Brian's short time in hospital; the care, and caring, could not have been better! Special thanks to Steve & Cathy.

Obituary announcement for old comrade Warrant Officer (Ret`d) Edward “Eddie” Joseph Dwyer

 

We regret to inform you of the passing of Warrant Officer (Ret`d) Edward “Eddie” Joseph Dwyer on 6 September 2015 at the age of 63. He served for 30 years and retired as an ATIS Tech in July 2007.

DWYER, Edward Joseph - (1952 - 2015) - It is with saddened hearts but wonderful memories that we announce the sudden passing of Edward "Eddie" Joseph Dwyer after a courageous battle with lung disease on Sunday September 6, 2015 in Toronto, ON at the age of 63.

Eddie will be greatly missed by his wife Rose of 40 years, beloved father of Eddie (Sue), Amy, and Aaron (Becky), and loving Papa to Madeline, Bridget, Gracie, Liberty, and his little man Jackson. He is survived by his father Edward (Florence), brothers Bernie (Yolanda), Bobby (Terri Lynn), Leo (Honey), Gerry (Angie), and Billy (Jennifer), sisters Cathy (John), Debbie (Paul), and Loretta. He is predeceased by his mother Louise and his brother Kevin. He will be sadly missed by several Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, and Friends.

Eddie was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia. He was a proud member of the Canadian Arm Forces for 30 years before retiring in 2007. His love of Family was seconded by his passion for golf and he always looked forward to rounds with his best friends Wade and Brock. He was a devoted follower and dedicated fan of the Green Bay Packers, Boston Red Sox, and the Montreal Canadians.

A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday 12 September at the Hillside Funeral Home, 362 Airport road, North Bay, Ontario. Eddie recently relocated to Toronto and was two days shy of going on the lung transplant list. In lieu of flowers and donations he and his family ask that you become an organ donor. SAVOIE, Rev. Father J. Georges Ivan Maj (ret)

Passed away peacefully at Kingston General Hospital on Tuesday September 8, 2015, in his 89 year.  The son of Lucien Savoie and Thérèse Proulx, he was born in Louisville, Quebec, on September 24, 1926 and ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Saint Boniface, Manitoba on January 19, 1959.

Fr. Georges is survived by his beloved Jeannine Paillé and by his siblings, Réal Savoie (Clemence Perron) of Gatineau, Marguerite Savoie of Trois Rivieres Quebec, Maurice Savoie of Trois Rivieres Quebec and Bruno Savoie of Montmagny Quebec.  He will be dearly missed by his brother priests, numerous nieces and nephews, friends.

During his priesthood, Fr. Georges served with the Canadian Forces, regular and reserve for 57 years.  He served as RC military chaplain on 15 Bases.  As a chaplain he followed the troops in their exercises and serviced in European countries.  His priesthood was characterized by his deep loyalty to the men and women that served in the forces.  He ministered with great faith, care and love.  In his later years he settled in Kingston and assisted occasionally in various parishes.

Friends will be received at the GORDON F, TOMPKINS FUNERAL HOME, 435 Davis Drive (Centennial Dr. and Taylor-Kidd Blvd.) on Sunday September 13, 2015, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. with the Vigil Service at 4:00 p.m.  He will lie in state at St. Mary's Cathedral Kingston on Monday September 14, 2015, from 9:00-9:55 a.m., with the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am, Archbishop Brendan O’Brien, Archbishop of Kingston presiding.  A reception will follow at St. Mary’s Parish Centre (corner of Brock and Clergy Street).  Memorial Mass and Rite of Committal with prayers will take place at Yamachiche, Quebec, burial place of his mother’s ancestors.

Memorial donations to be directed to the Education of Priest Fund for the Archdiocese of Kingston or the Education of Priest Fund for the Archdiocese of Saint Boniface in Manitoba. 

May he rest in the peace and joy of the Risen Lord.
