Obituary Notice for Ed McWhirter (LM079)

Information provided by son David. Formal Obit to be published later in the week in Whig Standard

At 12:30 pm on January 25th, Ed passed away peacefully at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto. My wife Karen and I were by his side. He fought valiantly for months to overcome many health issues and to achieve his goal of returning to Kingston and his beloved wife, Cecile. Although his heart function improved significantly after the valve replacement in October, his lungs were finally too weak to carry on.

His spirit was admired by all the many doctors, nurses, specialists and staff at St. Michael's who cared for him over the months and to whom we are so grateful. He was lucid right to the end and we had good conversations as recently as the weekend. He failed rapidly on Monday, and the end came quickly.

I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible this weekend.

In lieu of flowers, we would be pleased if you would consider a donation to St. Michael's Hospital or the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
