It is with profound sadness that we the family announce the death of our father and husband Roy McMullin, who passed away peacefully on Dec. 4, 2013, at home with his wife, Shirley and daughter, Debbie by his side.
Born in Reserve Mines, he was the son of the late Malcolm and Flora (Morrison) McMullin. Roy spent 26 years in the signals branch of the Canadian military before retiring to his home in Glace Bay in 1978. During his military service he was deployed twice to Cyprus as a peace keeper. Roy’s legacy carries forward in his passion for music, which lasted a lifetime. His home was always warmed by his singing and guitar playing, a gift he has passed on to his children and grandchildren.
Roy is survived by his wife of 56 years, Shirley; daughter, Debbie, Dominion; sons, Dale (Marilyn), Roy (Sheila), of Ontario. Grampy will be missed by his loving grandchildren, Chauntelle, Danielle, Jessica, Michael, Robyn and Taylor and his great-grandchild, Jace; as well as his constant companion his cat, Molly.
Roy held a special place in his heart for his niece, Theresa McNeil and nieces, Patsy Hill, Donalda McNeil, Darlene Brewer and grandniece, Kim McNeil Price.
Roy was the youngest of Malcolm and Flora’s 12 children and the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by his brothers, Mickey, Danny, Ebb, Naish, Joseph, John, Bunny, Archie and his sisters, Flora, Margaret & Mary. Roy was also predeceased by twin sons in infancy and his brother-in-law and best friend, 'Snoopy' Jimmy Brewer.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford 862-7500. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Roy’s life will take place on Monday, Dec. 9th at 10 a.m. in St. Anne’s Church, Glace Bay, with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. A luncheon will be held in the church. All are welcome. Donations in Roy’s memory can be made to Palliative Care.

"A Fallen Limb
A limb has fallen from the family tree
I hear a voice that whispers, ‘Grieve not for me’
Remember the best times, the laughter, and the songs
The good I lived while I was strong
Continue my heritage, I’m counting on you
Keep on smiling, the sun will shine through.
My mind is at ease, my soul is at rest
Remembering all…how I was truly blessed
Continue traditions, no matter how small
Go on with your lives, don’t stare at the wall
I miss you all dearly so keep up your chin
Until that fine day we’re together again."
