Obituary for Peter Forbes
February 2, 1932 – October 18, 2016
Peter John Forbes, 84, of Fredericton, NB, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2016, surrounded by his devoted family. Peter was born in Halifax, NS, to the late John and Marguerite (Kemp) Forbes on February 2, 1932.
He was a veteran of the Peace Corps and served in the armed forces for 25 years. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 4.
Peter was predeceased by his wife, Mary Kathleen “Kay” (Caines) Forbes, his two sons, Peter S. Forbes, and Cyril F. Forbes, his brother James Forbes, and his sister Joan (Forbes) Day.
Peter was a loving father and grandfather, a model of kindness and generosity. Family and friends loved spending time with him and enjoyed his sense of humour. He was often the life of the party and loved to sing. He will be remembered fondly for his signature song, “Riley’s Daughter”. Peter had a passion for hunting and fishing. He was incredibly strong, brave, loyal, and was the “rock” of the Forbes family. You could always count on “Papa” for having Ju–Jubes in the house for the kids and could always rely on him to do what he could for you, no matter what.
Peter is survived by his daughters, Carol Forbes of Peterborough ON, and Marguerite Forbes of Montreal QC; grandchildren, Jason, James, Peter (Vanessa), Alan, Brent (Carissa), Brian, Shauna (Ben), Christine (Mathieu), Meghan (Emmanuel); great–grandchildren, Hannah, Liam, Charlie, Owen, CJ, Amelia, Emmalynn, and Isla. Peter is also survived by his partner, Janet Silk, several cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
“Papa” was a very rich man and left his family and friends with an abundance of wealth; that wealth can be found in the many loving memories and the love he gave to all of us.
The Celebration of Life and Tribute will be held on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at 7pm at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 4 in Fredericton, NB.
Donations in Peter’s memory can be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #4 or to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation.
