HICKS, John Owen of Belleville Ontario died peacefully on November 13th,
2016 surrounded by loving family. The final end is bittersweet as a beloved
husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather is freed from a life he could
no longer enjoy. John is survived by his wife Shirley, his children Jo-Anne
(Terry), Stephen (Audrey), Suzanne (John), grandchildren Kate, Laura (Jon),
Stephanie (Chris), Mitchell, Hannah and great grandchildren Miles and Reid. A
Celebration of Life service will be held at the JOHN R. BUSH FUNERAL HOME, 80
Highland Avenue Belleville (613-968-5588) on Saturday, November 19th, 2016 at
1:15p.m. John was born March 3rd, 1926 in Portsmouth England, immigrating to
Canada in 1947.
John was a proud veteran of WWII and peacekeeping missions. His early career in the British Navy and lifetime dedication to the Canadian Armed Forces brought purpose and joy to his life. On June 11th, 1953 he married his British love, Shirley Ann Jones who supported him with compassion, love, and grace. John's family will continue his legacy of story telling, sharing his and their stories to ensure his life will always be remembered. Memorial donations may be made to the general fund of the Military Communications and Electronics Museum Foundation, Kingston or the Quinte Humane Society. Officers and Members of the Royal Canadian Legion Br#99, Belleville are asked to assemble at the funeral home for a memorial service at 1:00p.m. On-line condolences at www.rushnellfamilyservices.com
