It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Bob Paul at his home in Crofton Manor . Bob was born in Edmonds BC, the first child of William Paul and Ruth (Bates) Paul. He is predeceased by his wife Phyllis (nee Lapp), daughter Wendy Blanchard, son-in-law Brian McCann, and brothers Bill, Jack and Stanley.

Bob is survived by his sister Barbara, brother Doug, his three children; Louise (Bruce), Jim (Nancy), Margaret (Bruce), son-in-law Deyril and his nine grandchildren; Callum, Bronwen (Ian) Kaitlin, Alexander (Christine), Robert, Wesley, Sean, Kelsi and Mark, two great-grandchildren Morgan and Seamus; along with extended family in B.C., and beyond.

Bob was raised in Burnaby/New Westminster attending T.J. Technical High School and became a car-man in the C.N.R. repair shops. After serving five years in the Royal Canadian Corp of Signals during WW II, he returned home in 1946 and attended the University of British Columbia, graduating in 1952 with a BASc. in Civil Engineering.

Following university Bob joined Canadian Bechtel Ltd., and thereafter enjoyed a full career in the engineering-construction industry with the Bechtel organization, retiring in 1987 after a distinguished and rewarding 35 years of service. At retirement, Bob was Vice President and Director of the Bechtel Petroleum line, President of Bechtel Canada Ltd., Bechtel Quebec Ltd., and a Director of the three principal operating companies of the Bechtel Group, San Francisco. He was also a former member of the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario, and the Canadian Business Council of National Issues.

Bob and Phyllis had a 65-year marriage of adventure. They travelled the world for work and leisure; living in Toronto, San Francisco, Houston, and then finally returning to Vancouver, where they built their home overlooking English Bay. As members of Shaughnessy Golf Club, they continued their love of golf, and made many new friends.

Bob never forgot his humble roots; being generous of spirit he would be, reliably, the first to support, encourage and inspire family and friends. Qualities of loyalty and integrity defined him. He always enjoyed a friendly wager, whether it was on the games of golf or bridge he played, or the football and baseball matches he watched.

Fulfilling one of his dreams, he established an extraordinary gathering place in the Okanagan for friends and family to stay connected. “The Ranch” was a place where Bob enthusiastically participated in the cattle ranch, as well as managing the business. Family Christmases were celebrated yearly at the Ranch, with siblings and grandchildren, forming strong bonds that still exist today.

Robert H. Paul was a remarkable man; a loving family man; an accomplished career professional; an insatiable bibliophile seeking knowledge and understanding. Bob has been a beacon of optimism for the family;he will be greatly missed.

A Celebration of Life for Bob will be held at Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club, Vancouver, on April 15, 2018 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm.

WILSON, Robert James –  MWO R.J. Wilson CD (RET) RCSigs after a long illness at the Glen Stor Dun Lodge, Cornwall on Thursday March 22, 2018 at the age of 90 years.  Beloved husband of 61 years to Angela (née Bembenneck) Wilson. Loving father of James (Linda) of Sylvan Lake, Alberta. Sadly, missed by his grandson Aidan Robert Wilson.  Predeceased by his parents Robert T. Wilson and Agnes (née Emberg) Wilson.  Dear brother of Ronald Wilson (late Claire) of Cornwall. Predeceased by his brothers Percy and Douglas (late Louise). Also, survived by many nieces and nephews.  Born in Lancaster, where he was known as “Sonny”, Jim went on to proudly serve in the Canadian Armed Forces for 30 years.  He had several theatres of service, but most notably Korea (UN), Germany (NATO), and Cyprus (UN), along with numerous postings in Canada.  After retirement, he returned to Cornwall where he joined the staff of Cornwall and Area Housing for a period of twelve and a half years.  He had a voracious appetite for history and genealogy.  Jim had a great wit and his storytelling will be missed by all.  Resting at the Wilson Funeral Home, 822 Pitt Street, Cornwall where visitation will be held on Sunday from 7-9 PM and Monday from 9-10:45 AM. The Liturgy of the Word will be celebrated in the chapel of the Wilson Funeral Home on Monday March 26, 2018 at 11:00 AM. Obituary announcement for old comrade Ambrose Gillis

Ambrose Gillis

1938-2018

It is with saddened hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our father, Ambrose aged 79, on March 21st, 2018 at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Charlottetown. Born in North Sydney, Cape Breton, he was the son of the late Joseph Gillis and Lucy (MacNeil) Gillis.

Ambrose was a veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces, enlisting at the age of 22 and serving during the years 1960 to 1972. He was trained as a Teletype and Crypto Operator and was stationed in Halifax, NS, Petawawa and Borden, ON as well as overseas in Soest, Germany from 1966 to 1969. Ambrose reached the rank of Sergeant and following his military career, continued to use his communications skills as a Radio Communicator with the Canadian Coast Guard employed at stations in Ketch Harbour and Dartmouth, Nova Scotia until his retirement in 1997.

Ambrose is survived by two daughters, Valerie Gillis, Halifax, NS and Kimberley (Michael) Proulx, Charlottetown, PE; grandchildren, Danielle and Benjamin, Charlottetown, PE; two sisters, Jenny (Ches) Liska, North West Arm, NS and Sophie Gakis, Calgary, AB as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, James Bertrand Gillis and Joseph C. Gillis, both of Boisdale, NS, infant twin brothers, Archibald and Michael, and his sisters, Mary MacSween, Beaver Cove, NS and Sr. Margaret CSM, Antigonish, NS.

As his heart was always back home, a celebration of life and private interment to be held in Cape Breton at a later date. Donations may be made to the Nova Scotia Association for Community Living NSACL.

Obituary announcement for old comrade WEATHERALL, Donald Francis

Don Weatherall  (July 21, 1931 – March 9, 2018)

Don went peacefully home to be with the Lord at the Ruddy-Shenkman Hospice in Kanata on March 9^th at the age of 86. He was born on a warm, sunny day in Ottawa to Hilda Mary Redman and Francis Harold Weatherall. At the age of 8, he developed his lifelong interest in electronics by reading his Uncle Mel’s Popular Mechanics magazines and made it a career.

After his graduation from Ottawa Technical High School in 1949, he joined the Canadian Army Signal Corps where he studied electronics. From 1953-1974, he worked for the Department of National Defence. His next position as a Foreign Service Technician at External Affairs took him to various places including parts of Africa, Belgium, and Hong Kong, where he was responsible for the installation and maintenance of telecommunications equipment.

His interests included amateur radio, reading, listening to music, fixing broken mechanical equipment and electronics, and feeding squirrels. After his retirement in 1987, he enjoyed a quiet and happy life.

He is predeceased by his brother David, and is survived by his dear older sister Phyllis. He will be dearly missed by his wife Michèle, daughter Reva Atkinson (née Lynn Weatherall), her husband Peter, grandson Alex, and extended family. Don’s family would like to express their deep gratitude and appreciation for the staff and volunteers at the Ruddy-Shenkman Hospice, and the staff from St. Elizabeth Home Health, all who cared for him.

FLEET, William Charles - 1931 - 2018 It is with great sadness that the family announce the passing of William C. Fleet on Wednesday, February 28 at the age of 86. Bill will be lovingly remembered by his wife Margaret, and his children Maggie McTurk, Steve Fleet, granddaughter Kristen, brother Bob Fleet and sister Lorraine Watt. He treasured nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, extended family and friends around the world. Bill travelled the globe during his 32 year career in the Canadian Military followed by 9 rewarding years working with NATO. He was born in Halifax, NS to Charles and Lillian Fleet. Bill declined a funeral service in hopes that family and friends will celebrate his life in their own way and in their own time.
