Obituary announcement for old comrade Mike Hammer

The family announces with sorrow the passing of “Mike” Harald Hammer on July 14th/ 2017. Mike passed away peacefully at his home with his beloved wife Sue and family by his side. Mike was born on 5 June 1945 in Ansbach, Bavaria, Germany to Willi and Charlotte Hammer. He was the eldest of two children. He immigrated to Canada with his Mother in October 1952 to rejoin his Father who was already working in Geraldton. He began his extensive career in the Canadian Armed Forces in 1962, at the age of 17. He moved up threw many different ranks and titles and has seen the world over. Upon his retirement from the Military in September 1985, he held the title of Acting Warrant Officer with his main vocation as a Meteorology Technician. Mike returned to Geraldton that same year to take care of his aging parents and began his second career with the Municipality as the By-Law enforcement Officer. As the years went on, being the man he was, with a strong work ethic and discipline, he was able to take on more diverse roles with the Municipality. He became the chief building official, municipal planner and oversaw the six fire departments within the communities of Greenstone. Mike was a man of integrity, considerate and meticulous. He was very devoted to the people of this community. He had a very nice way with people, and prided himself on being very respected by and respectful towards other. Mike grew up in Geraldton and had an impeccable memory, which served him well as he was often called upon to share historical facts about the history of Greenstone. Survived by his wife, Sue & his little buddies, Boo and Molly, who will miss him always and forever. His son Lawson, (Stacey) and grandson, Kash of Windsor, N. S. His sister, Elizabeth of North Bay. His niece Charlotte (Rob Gaudreau), their children Ben and Paige of North Bay. His nephew Heintje Andreason (Julie), their children Maddie and Carter of Orleans, On. Sue’s family, Claudette (Roger Beauvais) of Nakina. Claude (Jane) of Thunder Bay, Theresa (Dave Strangway) of Nakina, Margie (Gilbert Rondeau), Yvonne (Yves Bernard), Steve, Germaine (Dennis Koevoet), all of Geraldton. Georgette Abraham of Nakina; Donna (Poncho Milkovich) of Bradford, On. He also leaves behind numerous nieces & nephews, who will miss “Uncle Mike” dearly. Predeceased by his parents, Willi and Charlotte Hammer; his mother in law, Georgette Abraham; his brother in law, Donnie and wife, Brenda. As per Mike’s wishes, cremation has taken place. In accordance to his wishes no funeral services will be held. A private celebration of Mike’s life and interment at Pine Grove Cemetery will take place at a later date.  See link https://goo.gl/d5YRSp
