Obituary announcement for club member Stewart Wright (Webb) Webster LM 172

The family of Webb Webster announces the sad news that he passed away on March 17, 2017. Webb was a genuine character who had lived in Castlegar for more than 40 years. He was born and raised on a farm near Deloraine, Manitoba. Webb served in the Signal Corps during the Korean War. Afterwards, he studied engineering at the University of Manitoba and UBC. As an electrical engineer he worked for BC Hydro on the projects at Hudson Hope, Waneta, and the Kootenay River. Over his long career Webb was also employed by utilities in California, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and West Virginia.
Webb was active in the outdoors until the end of his life. He was an avid hiker and skier. He made many journeys by canoe in western Canada and the US, and he spent a week each year on a horseback trip in the Rockies. He built his own airplane, which is still flying in B.C., as well as many cedar strip canoes.
Webb actively contributed to his community. He was a school board trustee and college council member for many years. Webb volunteered for a number of community organizations and gave generously to many charities.
Webb was predeceased by his wife Marguerite in 2014. He is survived by his son Gordon (Ruth McDonald), daughter Vicki, grandsons Brennan and Matthew, and many nephews, nieces and friends. He will be remembered with a smile by all who knew him.
A funeral will be held at St. Rita’s in Castlegar on Saturday, March 25 at 10:30 am.
