WO1 GS (Sam) Kennard,retired- Royal Signals. Silent Key--Sam passed away yesterday,16 Aug 2011, in England from an aneurism. He was an avid ham radio operator,G4OHX, and operated his station from many different locations around the world. During the visit of Princess Anne at our 100th Anniversary we had Sam operating VE3RCS when she visited the Museum. He was a great supporter of the Signallers Club and unofficially acted as our liaison in the UK. He served his country with the Royal Signals and retired as the RSM of the British Signals Airborne Regt. One of my great thrills was to contact him "on-air" by phone and CW (he sure had to slow down for me to copy)

Born July 24, 1926, passed away peacefully at St. Mary's of the Lake with the support of his family on Wednesday, August 3, 2011, shortly after his 85th birthday. Dear & loving husband of Brenda (nee Connolly) and cherished father of Beckie Harrison (Brian) of Ottawa; Stephanie Hook (James) of Sydenham; Bob (Mina) of Campbellford and Brenda Murphy (Chris Burke) of Dunrobin. Much loved Papa of Emily, Ben, Lauren (Jeremy), Sean, Brian, Jeffery, Jessica and Sarah. Brother of Katherine Burgess and John Murphy and predeceased by his sisters Helen, Charlotte, Margaret and Pat. Son of the late William & Agnes Murphy. Bob retired as RSM of the School and was previously SSM of 1 CMBG HQ & Sigs Sqn,Calgary. He worked as a lineman for many years and as an instructor for the trade, he is fondly remembered by the lineman as one of the best "pot wipers"(lead) in the trade and he passed this knowledge to many of us. Belated Obituary Notice for Len Rae LM376

I recently found out that Len Rae died last October 24th, 2010 at his home in Wasaga Beach, Ont. Len joined the 11th intake of Soldier Apprentices of RC Sigs. 1962 -- 1964. Following the 2 plus years in Kingston he was posted out to 2 Sigs Squadron in Petawawa as a R & TG Operator. We took our pre-para course here together before taking the jump course in Rivers, Manitoba in March 1965. Len got out after five years and ended up in Toronto, primarily working for SIS Alarms and Wells Fargo Alarms until about 1980 when he moved back to his hometown of Wasaga Beach. His health was not good, but I was very surprised when I found out he had died. I don't believe anybody in the Sigs org has heard of his passing.

Gerald Wellington Fleming - 75, of Canning, passed away Monday, July 25, 2011 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Winchester, Ontario, he was a son of the late James and Edna (Jennings) Fleming. He served as a radio operator with the Signal Corps in the Canadian Army and also served as a Peacekeeper. He retired as a truck driver and enjoyed going for coffee with friends. He is survived by his wife, Heather (Harvey); three sons, Randy (Karen), Ontario; Keven (Susan), Lakeville; Jeff (Shelley), Edmonton; step-son, Chris (Natasha), Kentville; sister, Patricia; 17 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his second wife, Helen; a daughter, Beverley; two brothers, Robert and Ernest. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville. There will be no visitation, by request. A funeral service will be held in Prescott, Ontario at a later date. Donations in memory may be made to the Kidney Foundation or the charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.

Peacefully after a lengthy battle with cancer, at LHSC Victoria Campus on Wednesday July 6, 2011, James Edward Lankin (Ed) of London passed away in his 71st year. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mamie. Loving father of Glenn and his wife Deb (Gabrielle) and his daughter, Susanne Goudswaard and husband Joe. Sadly missed by his granddaughters Emily and Maya Lankin. He is survived by his two sisters, Carole Boyd and her husband, Lawrence J Boyd and Barbara Friars and her husband Bill Friars of Harrow, Ontario. Ed was in the 6th intake of Signals Apprentice 57-59. He graduated as a Rad Op. and was a Life Member of the Signallers Club of Canada (LM759). He was a very quiet soldier, a good operator with a wonderful smile on his face at all times.
